Shannon Matchett

BCrim, LLB, GDLP

Shannon Matchett is an experienced Criminal Lawyer and advocate who developed his skills in the Local, District and Supreme Court jurisdictions against experienced opponents. Shannon graduated from Armidale’s University of New England with a double degree in Law and Criminology, where his legal studies focused on regional, rural, and remote crime. Shannon’s focus in Criminology was the intersection of domestic and family violence.

Before commencing at Pennicott Weir Lawyers, Shannon was a Public Prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. From his experience, Shannon is well placed to look at criminal charges from ‘the other side’ and identify the weaknesses and best defence to allegations against his clients.

In his career, Shannon has appeared in hundreds of appeals against convictions and sentences, achieving just results for his clients across the Riverina. Shannon has experience in cases concerning allegations of, but not limited to, drug possession, supply and trafficking, violence, theft, breaking and entering, fraud, sexual assaults, murders, and driving offences including death by dangerous driving.

Shannon’s focus as a Criminal Lawyer is to always remember the ‘human’ element to legal practice– no client is just a file. This is reflected in Shannon’s approach to advocating for his client’s best interests, and he finds that the best results for his clients are achieved by appreciating and empathising with the unique circumstances that bring a person into contact with the Criminal Justice System.
